January 8, 2015 English 7 Review

What a great end to the first semester!

Students wrapped up the Anne Frank unit and have jumped full speed into the beginning of the third nine weeks.

For the next two weeks, we will be participating in an extended activity using the "Jigsaw" instructional tool. The Jigsaw is an effective collaborative learning activity designed to increase personal responsibility for learning. It is also an efficient strategy for extending the breadth and depth of learning as students can "teach one another" multiple concepts simultaneously during the same class session.

I have enjoyed listening to students process and talk out their understandings of the concepts they have been assigned. Through this method, students will relearn the Prepositional phrase, and learn Verbal phrases, and Appositive phrases. Groups have mastered their understanding of the concepts and began the process of figuring out how to teach the to their peers. They are gathering ideas on ways students learn, ways to teach, and ways to assess student learning.

If you are interested in viewing the organizational documents/rubrics for the extended Jigsaw, they can be found on your child/children's MyBackpack account, under the English 7 Homework link.
