Our class reviewed how to develop an "Extended Response" aka a "Constructed Response". Students viewed a video which provided another way to "remember" how to develop these types of responses. They will apply what they learned, and develop extended responses for their "Nancy Hanks" poetry analysis frame homework, which will be due Monday, October 13.
It was highly suggested not to wait until the last minute to work on the "Nancy Hanks" poetry analysis frame as each question requires an extended response. These are very time consuming and require students to think deeply, and provide a thorough and well written response about aspects of the poem. I read the poem aloud and each class went through a modeling/discussion of what their responses should look like.
This week we begin another short story, "The Monkey's Paw" written by W.W. Jacobs. Students will be engaged in many activities, this week and next, to help deepen their understanding of foreshadowing, situational irony, theme, moral, plot, vocabulary in context, adverbs, and general comprehension of the story itself.
Students have a clean slate with their grades, so I encourage every student to continue working hard and complete all assignments on time!
